Ecological Habitat Surveys

  • Phase 1 Habitat Surveys/ Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA) – which fauna and flora exist on your site before any work begins. This is a baseline assessment required for most planning applications to inform you, your architect, planning consultant and local council of the ecology present on the site. No demolition, clearance or changes to your site should happen until a PEA has taken place and any required permissions received.
  • Preliminary Roost Assessments (PRA) – whether your building is likely to be used by UK bat species. Your site will be assessed to have either HIGH, MEDIUM, LOW or NEGLIGIBLE potential of being used by bats. Depending on this assessment, up to three Bat Activity Surveys may then be required by the local planning authority to inform them of which species use the site and how many individuals there are. The data will be used by the ecologist to submit a report to accompany your planning application.
  • Biodiversity surveys – water quality, freshwater aquatic species identification, hedgerow, woodland and meadow biodiversity appraisals. We look for the presence of invasive species, hedgerow and tree health and diversity. These can help us to make recommendations for future land management to support maximum possible biodiversity and support applications for any available grants. They can also highlight whether licenses will be required for changing habitats relating to certain species (bat, newt, badger and other rare or protected species).
