Lesser horseshoes in Dorset!

A fantastic survey in the county of Dorset, the team used a thermal imaging camera to identify a potential lesser horseshoe Rhinolophus hipposideros roost. The team also set up infra-red cameras to record footage of light testing before flying out for the evening. This remarkable species of bat is rare in the UK, with a limited range to the west, south-west and Wales. This species has faced a marked decline in numbers and distribution, however the Bat Conservation Trust suggests that their numbers are rising in Wales!

The video shows the lesser horseshoe going through repeated motions in order to warm up before flying.
