About Us

Daniel Ahern Ecology is based in the south of England, on the eastern side of Salisbury Plain (a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI)). The rare chalk lowland here represents the largest surviving semi-natural, dry grassland in Europe – one of the most bio-diverse habitats in the world, with up to 40 plant species per square metre. Renowned for rare juniper scrub, orchids, harebells, scabious, viper’s bugloss, marsh fritillary butterfly, common lizard, grass snake and many other species, we adore living in this glorious place.

Daniel Ahern Ecology are a friendly, family-run company with extensive experience helping provide the ecological support needed to build homes for the future.

Beth Dean Assistant Ecologist

From a farming family in Cambridgeshire, Beth side-stepped from agriculture into horticulture and garden design back in 2005, qualifying at Sparsholt College Hampshire. She has 20 years’ experience in sympathetically developing English country gardens for clients across Wiltshire, Hampshire and Dorset with her own company, Elizabeth Dean Garden Design. Joining Daniel Ahern Ecology in 2018, Elizabeth has become adept at habitat assessment, bat surveying and also, as a co-director of the company, takes a management role within the business. Hours away from work ideally include gardening, horse-riding and restoring an old money-pit farmhouse that she and Dan have made home.

Mike Tennick Survey Co-ordinator

Mike joined the team in the spring of 2023. He holds a BSc in Applied Biology from Sparsholt College Hampshire (University of Southampton). Having worked across Europe in marketing and sales, he now prefers to work closer to home to spend more time developing his varied farming interests including keeping poultry and alpacas. His knowledge of native wildlife makes him a perfect fit for supporting our clients with BNG projects and Tree Surveys.

Megan Conway Field Surveyor

Megan holds a BSc in Wildlife, Ecology and Conservation from Sparsholt College Hampshire (University of Southampton). She’s a skilled Habitat Surveyor during the day and a Bat Activity Surveyor in the evenings. When she’s not at work, Megan is a New Forest Commoner and loves to be with her favourite people – her family, her horse and her black labrador.

Joseph Dean Field surveyor

Whilst a student at the University of Sheffield (achieving a BSc in Biochemistry and an MSc in Neuroscience), Joe has spent several summers working as part of our field ecology team. He has dreams of curing dementia, but in the meantime puts up with us.

Isabella Dean Field Surveyor

Isabella works with the team as a field surveyor, mainly helping us with Bat Activity Surveys during the summer months. She also studys dentistry at the University of Birmingham.

Siobhan Bartholomew Field Surveyor

Siobhan joined us in the summer of 2023 as a member of our bat surveying team. She also helps with admin for Dan’s other business venture, Daniel Ahern Books, which sells antique and rare books about Natural History, Gardening and Architecture – an almost-relevant sideways step.
